From experience, some questions are asked quite frequently. Here you will find our FAQs, separated by YoHo and MAZZA.

What makes MAZZA so exceptional?
The fascinating oriental furnishings and, of course, the Syrian specialities invite our guests to plunge into the world of the Orient and will make each visit an experience to remember. Excellent cuisine and an outstanding selection of Lebanese, Spanish, German, Italian and French wines are waiting for our guests.
Do the hotel YoHo and the restaurant MAZZA belong together?
The restaurant MAZZA located in the YoHo is an independently run company, but the teams of YoHo and MAZZA are working together closely and amicably under one roof. If you are planning conferences, events and dinners on a large or small scale, please contact the MAZZA team. The YoHo team will be happy to assist you in booking hotel rooms for your event.
What conference facilities are available at MAZZA?
The high-class conference facilities consist of four rooms that can be used for conferences or parties with two to 200 guests, depending on the seating arrangement.
Does MAZZA still belong to the SALIBA restaurants?
No, since early 2006, a new tenant has taken over the restaurant. However, the idea, the food, the recipes, the fine cuisine and most members of staff of the former Saliba remained with the restaurant.
Do you serve lunch at MAZZA?
Yes, but only for conference guests and groups booked in advance.
What are the specific characteristics of the Syrian cuisine?
Syria has a coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, the Syrian cuisine is a wonderful mixture of Mediterranean and exotic oriental culinary delights: a fine contemporary mix that combines the best of two worlds – thyme, coriander and rosemary meet curcuma, cardamom and star anise.
What is special about the choice of food offered at MAZZA?
When having dinner at MAZZA you have already ordered. A surprising offer, only to be outperformed by the five-course menu that you will be presented with. Step by step, the amazed guest will be served the delicious dishes of the Caliphs. At first, you will indulge yourself in cold specialities, to be followed by warm delicacies, all of them artfully co-ordinated to harmonise with each other, and finally culminating in a sweet sin of the Orient.
For advance bookings and bookings for separate rooms MAZZA offers its guests an astonishing selection of buffets, menus and catering with international specialities.
Does MAZZA offer à-la-carte dining?
For hotel guests only, MAZZA offers a small menu to choose from. Non-hotel guests will enjoy the MAZZA menu which is a culinary cross section of the Syrian cuisine.
How many courses are included in the large MAZZA menu?
In total, it consists of five courses which include cold and warm oriental specialities. They are served in numerous little bowls to try and nibble. You should allow some time to unhurriedly enjoy the excellent food, perhaps in good company with some friends. After dinner, the cosy oriental ambience invites you to sink into the soft cushions to relax while enjoying an Arabian mocha.
What dishes are served for the individual courses?
The menu is like a surprise menu that consists of several variations of the Syrian cuisine. If you are vegetarian, please let us know in advance and we will be happy to adjust the dishes to meet your personal preference. Normally, we will serve numerous little bowls with a wide range of different starters, to be followed by a fish and a meat course, usually filet of lamb. Finally, we will present sweet temptations of the Orient for dessert.
What are the opening hours of the restaurant?
The restaurant is open daily from 6:00 p.m. until midnight, also on public holidays. Lunch is only available for conference guests and advance group bookings.
What is special about the YoHo?
It is a hotel for young people, with an especially cosmopolitan, warm and caring atmosphere. People from all over the world, all areas and backgrounds feel welcome here - from the young entrepreneur to the artist or globetrotter.
When was the YoHo opened?
The hotel YoHo and the restaurant MAZZA were opened in November 2000.
Who was the architect?
The two industrial designers Bettina Herman and Dirk Danielsen from Atelier Centrale in Hamburg planned and executed the reconstruction.
How is the AWO involved with the YoHo?
During a five-year long period of planning and reconstructing the AWO (Arbeiterwohlfahrt = Workers' Welfare Association) rebuilt and extended the building with the help of the ALH (Arbeit und Lernen Hamburg = Working and Learning Hamburg). This reconstruction project partly involved the help of long-term unemployed and young people without professional training who received further education and professional training in some professions of the building trade during the construction phase. The AWO is now leasing the building to two private entrepreneurs.
Why the name YoHo - the young hotel?
The name YoHo is an abbreviation for ’young hotel’. It was developed by the young and creative advertising agency Bartel, Brömmel, Struck from Hamburg and is based on the original idea to open a youth hotel.
How was the building previously used?
YoHo - the young hotel remains loyal to the social tradition of this building: In 1904, the Order of Good Templars built this Wilhelminian villa at Moorkamp and used it until 1995 as a lodge house. During both of the two world wars the house had been converted to a military hospital. In 1944, a fire bomb destroyed the attic and the assembly hall. The house was rebuilt at great efforts, and in 1995 the Good Templars decided to sell it to Arbeiterwohlfahrt Hamburg (AWO = Workers' Welfare Association).
In a combined effort and with financial support from the EU, the City of Hamburg and AWO a beautiful hotel was created combining elements from the Orient and the Occident.
How centrally located is the YoHo?
YoHo is located right in the heart of the city, between the trendy Schanzenviertel district and Eimsbuettel. The city centre, the town hall and the Alster lake can be reached by underground in only 8 minutes, or a pleasant walk through the Planten un Blomen park takes about 20 to 25 minutes. The Schanzenviertel district is only a 5 to10 minute walk away.
Does the YoHo have a spa and wellness area?
We do not have our own spa and wellness area, but our guests are welcome to use the spa and fitness centre at the KAIFU-LODGE at discounted rates.
